How do I obtain an electrical license in North Carolina?

To apply, for an electrical license exam in North Carolina, contact the NC State Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors at 919-733-9042 or visit ncbeec.org. North Carolina requires licensees to complete 8 hours of Continuing Education to renew.

North Carolina Electrical License Reciprocity: NC electrical licenses have reciprocity with several other states. These states include Alabama, Louisiana, Tennessee, Ohio, Florida, Mississippi, Virginia, Texas, Georgia, South Carolina, West Virginia. If you hold a license in one of these states, you may be able to have the trade exam waived.

NASCLA Electrical Exam: Many state licensing agencies, including North Carolina, accept the NASCLA Accredited Electrical Exams. This gives you the option to just take one electrical exam instead of having to take each state's electrical exam. After passing the NASCLA exam, you will only need to take the state's business and law exam and submit your application.

In order to sit for the exam, you must submit the application for licensure to the state. It must include verified education and work experience as required by the state. Once the application is approved, the you will receive instructions on how to schedule the exam. The North Carolina Electrical License exam must be taken within 30 days of receiving the notification letter.
